The Journey

Progression & Bosses

FF III opens on a floating continent and ends in a brutal descent through the World of Darkness. Most of the road is steady — but a few bosses test your job flexibility, and the finale tests your nerve.

05 · The Arc

World structure

  1. The Floating Continent. The starting world where the first Crystals wake and your early jobs open up.
  2. The Surface World. The continent's barrier lifts and the full world opens — more Crystals, more jobs, the Dragoon/Garuda gate, Hein, and the path forward.
  3. Toward the climax. Recover the Crystals' full power, reach the final job tier, and gear up.
  4. The Crystal Tower & beyond. The endgame gauntlet — Crystal Tower, optional Eureka, the World of Darkness, and the Cloud of Darkness.
06 · The Walls

Key bosses

  • Garuda — the famous job-check. He punishes melee hard; make the party Dragoons and Jump to stay safe and deal heavy dive damage. (See Best Jobs.)
  • Hein — raises a shifting elemental barrier. Use a Scholar's Study to read the current weakness, then nuke it with Black magic.
  • Cloud of Darkness — the final boss. Its Particle Beam hits the whole party for massive damage; you want high levels, the master jobs, and full healing. The four Warriors of Darkness lend aid in the World of Darkness.
07 · Optional

Eureka & the legendary weapons

Eureka, off the Crystal Tower, holds the game's ultimate gear — legendary weapons like Excalibur, Ragnarok and Masamune, plus top spells — each guarded by a powerful boss-job sentinel. Clearing it before the World of Darkness massively upgrades your finale roster. It's optional, but strongly worth it.

The no-save warning: once you commit to the Crystal Tower, there is no save point through Eureka, the World of Darkness, and the Cloud of Darkness. Enter over-levelled, stocked with Elixirs/Phoenix Downs, and with your jobs and gear finalized — a wipe sends you all the way back.
08 · The Story

What it's all about

⚠ Spoiler — the story & ending

Four orphaned youths fall into a cavern, touch the Wind Crystal, and learn they are the Warriors of the Light, chosen to restore a balance that has tipped too far toward light. (In this Pixel Remaster, based on the Famicom original, they're the nameless Onion-kid Light Warriors — not the named DS cast.)

The floating continent and the world below were thrown into chaos by Xande, a sorcerer who — granted mortality by the Great Sage Noah — grew so terrified of death that he tried to stop time itself, draining the world toward a flood of darkness.

Behind Xande waits the true enemy: the Cloud of Darkness, an entity of pure void that means to return all existence to nothingness. In the World of Darkness, the four Warriors of Darkness join your cause, and together you destroy the Cloud — restoring the balance of light and dark, the game's central theme.
