Missables & Tips

A linear game still has a couple of things you can lose forever — mostly gear that walks out the door on a departing ally — plus the most famous grind in the game and the habits that keep your party alive on the moon.

Missables & secrets

  • Strip gear from departing allies. The #1 loss in FF IV — characters who leave the party take their equipped gear with them. Before a story beat that removes someone, un-equip anything valuable (especially rare weapons/armor) you'd rather keep.
  • Pink Tail → Adamant Armor. Deep in the Lunar Subterrane, a rare Pink Puff encounter has a tiny chance to drop a Pink Tail; trade it to the Tail Collector for the Adamant Armor, the best body armor in the game. It's a notorious grind — bring patience (and an encounter-up strategy).
  • Lunar Subterrane loot. The final dungeon hides much of the best gear (Ribbons, Crystal equipment, Excalibur via the smith's Adamantite, top summons material). Sweep it thoroughly before Zeromus.
  • Save before story bosses. Members leave and join around plot fights; a fresh save avoids losing progress or a stripped character.
Pixel Remaster noteThe PR is SNES-based, so there are no Augments and no Lunar Ruins / Cave of Trials bonus dungeon (those are GBA/3D-only). Endgame optional content is the Lunar Subterrane and its rare drops.

Durable tips

  • Fragile units in the back row. Rosa, Rydia, and any caster lose nothing there and take half physical damage.
  • Never skip Rosa's healing. She's irreplaceable — keep the party topped and she carries every hard fight.
  • Kain's Jump is offense and defense. Use it for burst and to vanish during a telegraphed nuke.
  • Edge's Throw is your nuke. Throwing strong weapons/shuriken is huge single-target burst — great on bosses (just know you lose the thrown item).
  • Level Rydia. Summons scale with her level/Magic harder than almost anything else in your kit.
  • Exploit the Fiends' elements and bring Slow / Haste / Reflect — status control trivializes the hardest fights.
  • Use Wait mode and a slower battle speed on tough bosses for cleaner inputs.
