Missables & Tips

FF V is mostly forgiving — the Rift lets you re-learn nearly everything — but a few habits and a couple of one-shot choices separate a smooth run from a frustrated one.

Missables & secrets

  • Blue Magic windows — a few enemy skills are easy to skip; most are re-learnable on Rift enemies, but grab Mighty Guard, White Wind, and Level 5 Death when you can (use Control to force them).
  • The twelve legendary weapons — don't leave the third world without sweeping the sealed tablets / Phantom Village shops.
  • Chicken Knife / Brave Blade — a permanent either/or; pick deliberately (see Weapons).
  • !Catch rare monsters (Beastmaster) for one-use nukes you can't get otherwise.
  • Master before the merge where you can — ABP-rich spots (and the Rift's Movers) make finishing your key jobs painless before the finale.

Durable tips

  • Master four jobs above all: Ninja (Dual-Wield), Ranger (Rapid Fire), Mystic Knight (Spellblade), Red Mage (Dualcast).
  • Build on Freelancer or Mime — that's where mastered passives and multi-slot combos come together.
  • Keep a Mighty Guard / White Wind Blue Mage for party buffs and free healing.
  • Goliath Tonic (Mix) to double a carry's HP before a hard boss.
  • Enter Shinryu with water immunity and everyone Ribbon'd; enter Omega expecting to lose a few attempts.
  • Apollo's Harp trivializes the Exdeath fights — bring a Bard or just the weapon.
  • Don't over-think the Knife choice — Chicken Knife + Rapid Fire is the path of least resistance.
