The Arsenal

Legendary Weapons

The third world hides the best gear in the game behind the sealed tablets — and one famous either/or choice that follows your whole party's relationship with running away.

07 · The Tablets

How the sealed weapons work

In the third world, twelve legendary weapons sit sealed behind four stone tablets. Each tablet you recover lets you unseal three of the twelve — so the choices matter, and a careless party can lock the best weapon away from the job that wanted it.

  • The four tablets are found in the Pyramid of Moore, the Island Shrine, the Great Sea Trench, and Istory Falls.
  • Three weapons per tablet — choose the three that fit your current job lineup, not the “coolest” names.
  • Almost every weapon type has a sealed version — the exceptions are boomerangs, hammers, and one-handed swords.
Common mix-upThere is no Ragnarok among FF V's sealed weapons (that's a different game). The sword in this set is Excalibur; the strongest raw weapon overall is the katana Masamune.

The legendary weapons

WeaponTypeWhat makes it special
MasamuneKatanaThe standout. High attack, increased crit, always acts first in battle, and casts Haste when used as an item. Best single weapon in the game.
ExcaliburSword (Knight)+5 Strength and Holy-elemental attacks. The go-to Knight/heavy sword.
Apollo's HarpHarp (Bard)Deals 8× damage to Undead and Dragons — melts any boss flagged as either, even from the back row.
Assassin's DaggerDagger+1 Speed and a ~25% chance to instant-kill non-immune foes. Great on a Ninja/Thief, and Dual-Wield-able.
Yoichi's BowBowRaises Strength & Speed and boosts critical chance — a back-row Ranger's dream.
Holy LanceSpear+3 Strength and Holy-elemental — pairs with Jump for big front-row burst.
Rune AxeAxeRaises Magic when held and can spend MP for an automatic critical hit — huge spike damage.
Gaia's BellBellBoosts Earth-element attacks and has a ~25% chance to cast Quake on hit.
Fire LashWhip+2 Speed and a ~33% chance to cast Firaga on hit — hits front or back row.
Magus RodRodAdds Fire, Ice and Lightning to attacks — a Black Mage's strongest stick for elemental coverage.
Sage's StaffStaffA caster staff that aids White/Red mages — supports the magic line rather than dealing big physical damage.
Sasuke's KatanaKatanaStrong attack plus a blade-catch property that can block incoming physical hits — a defensive katana for a Ninja/Samurai.
Priority unseals: grab Masamune first (Haste + first-strike is build-defining), then Apollo's Harp for boss-melting, and a second strong physical weapon (Excalibur or Assassin's Dagger) to feed your Dual-Wield + Rapid Fire carry.
09 · The Dilemma

Chicken Knife vs Brave Blade

Separate from the sealed twelve, the village of Mirage hides a one-time choice: two ultimate daggers/swords on the same pedestal — you can only take one. Both scale with how your party plays, in opposite directions.

WeaponScales withCatchBest for
Chicken KnifeThe more battles you've fled, the higher its attack (caps very high).~12.5% chance the wielder flees the battle on attack.Almost everyone — it's a dagger, so it feeds Dual-Wield + Rapid Fire.
Brave BladeStarts at maximum attack with zero flees.Loses attack every time you flee a battle — permanently.No-flee / challenge runs that never escaped a fight.
Take the Chicken Knife. By the third world a normal playthrough has fled plenty of battles, so its attack is already enormous, while the Brave Blade is usually crippled. A stray auto-flee barely matters — and as a dagger it's the ideal carry for the game's broken Dual-Wield + Rapid Fire combo.
10 · The Payoff

Arming the broken combos

  • The carry: a Freelancer/Mime with Dual-Wield holding two strong weapons (Chicken Knife + Masamune, or two daggers) firing Rapid Fire — eight hits a turn, ignoring evasion. The most damage in the game.
  • The caster: a Masamune keeps a mage permanently Hasted and always acting first — even on someone who never swings it.
  • The boss-melter: Apollo's Harp from the back row trivializes dragon/undead bosses; keep one Bard or Harp-user ready for them.
  • The nuke spike: Rune Axe + a big MP pool delivers automatic crits for huge single hits when you need to burst a phase.
