Final Fantasy I

Pixel Remaster

The one that started everything. You name four Light Warriors, choose their classes, and set out to relight the four darkened Crystals. There's no story party to inherit — the team is yours from the first screen, and the Pixel Remaster finally makes every class and every spell work the way they always should have.

Core systems at a glance

  • You build the whole party. Pick four from six classes at the start — that choice is your entire run. There are no recruited heroes and no class switching later (only an upgrade).
  • Classic levels & EXP. Unlike FF II, this is straightforward leveling: win battles, gain EXP, level up, stats rise by class.
  • Magic uses spell charges, not MP. Each of the eight spell levels has its own pool of charges. You learn spells from shops — but only three of the four spells at each level.
  • The Class Change. Midway through, a quest upgrades all four heroes to their advanced forms (Warrior→Knight, Thief→Ninja, and so on), unlocking better gear and some new magic.
  • The Pixel Remaster fixed the famous bugs. Intelligence now boosts black magic, resist and buff spells actually work, and item-cast spells function — so casters scale and old "trap" choices are viable.
  • No bonus dungeons. The PR is the rebalanced original — no Soul of Chaos / GBA extra dungeons. Clean, classic scope.
