Bosses, Hard Mode & Pride and Joy

Remake's bosses are all about reading the stagger conditions and surviving the heavy phases. The same method beats nearly all of them — and Hard Mode plus the VR superboss are where the real preparation pays off.

06 · The Method

The universal boss plan

Almost every boss falls to the same loop: Assess for the weakness and stagger condition → Pressure it with that element/tactic → break the Stagger → unload Limit Breaks, Tifa's True Strike, ATB Boost abilities and Summons in the window.

  • Scorpion Sentinel (Ch.1) — Lightning-weak; break its tail/legs, and take cover behind debris during its tail-laser barrage.
  • Airbuster (Ch.7) — the bridge boss; the optional terminals you choose beforehand change its loadout. Lightning works; hit it from both sides to keep it off-balance.
  • Hell House (Ch.9) — it cycles elemental barriers; match the element it's currently weak to (it tells you), then burst when it grounds.
  • Reno & Rude, Abzu, Eligor, the Arsenal, and the Whisper Harbinger — multi-phase set-pieces; keep heals up, exploit the listed weakness, and save your stagger burst.
  • Sephiroth (Ch.18) — the multi-phase finale; precise-block the big combos, punish the openings, and double-cast from Aerith's Arcane Ward to accelerate.

Hard Mode

Unlocked after you finish the story, Hard Mode is the true endgame: no items in battle, and MP doesn't recover on benches (only via leveling up at a bench between chapters). It also drops the best manuscripts (which raise SP/stats) and is required for full completion.

  • Sustain from your build, not items. Magnify + Healing, HP Absorption on a damage Materia, and Prayer / Chakra (MP-free heals) keep you alive.
  • Spend MP only on healing. Win damage with abilities and physical pressure, not spells, so your MP lasts.
  • Steadfast Block + good blocking turns defense into ATB and cuts chip damage.
  • Re-spec SP per chapter (it's free) and pick chapters via Chapter Select to farm specific manuscripts.
08 · The Superboss

Pride and Joy Prototype & Gotterdammerung

In the Shinra Combat Simulator, the Three-Person Team vs Top Secrets challenge ends with the Pride and Joy Prototype — the game's ultimate superboss. Beating it (on Hard) rewards the legendary Gotterdammerung accessory, which charges Limit gauges fast and grants temporary stat boosts on Limit use.

Prep: finish your Materia leveling and SP first, bring Magnify+Healing, Revival, ATB Boost/Assist, and elemental coverage. It's a stamina test — expect multiple attempts, keep heals flowing, and burst hard every stagger.
