Intergrade, Missables & Tips

The extras that round out a Remake run — the Yuffie episode that comes with Intergrade, the collectibles and choices you can miss, and the habits that make the combat sing.

The Yuffie episode (INTERmission)

The Intergrade release (PS5 and PC/Steam) bundles INTERmission, a two-chapter side episode starring Yuffie and her partner Sonon as they infiltrate Midgar. It introduces:

  • Yuffie's kit — ranged/melee shuriken throw and elemental Ninjutsu; swap elements to Pressure fast, then burst.
  • Synergy — team-up actions with the AI-controlled Sonon for combined attacks and shared ATB pressure.
  • Fort Condor — a full tower-defense board-game minigame with collectible boards and pieces.
  • Its own Hard Mode and a tough optional superboss (the Weiss fight) for the dedicated.

Missables & collectibles

  • Manuscripts (raise SP) and stat sources — some are tied to side quests, Hard Mode, and the combat simulator. Chapter Select after the story lets you mop these up.
  • Music Discs — scattered across Midgar (jukeboxes, vendors); a full collection is a trophy. Grab them as you pass.
  • The dress events (Ch.9, Wall Market) — your side-quest choices for Cloud, Tifa and Aerith's outfits are branch-gated; a single playthrough only sees one set, so Chapter Select for the rest.
  • Side quests & Corneo's vault code — some quests and rewards only appear in specific chapters; do them before the story moves on, or replay the chapter.
  • Summon Materia — a few summons are battle-intel rewards or pre-order/edition extras; check what your version includes.
Good news: nothing is permanently lost — Chapter Select (after finishing the story) lets you replay any chapter with your gear to clean up missables, manuscripts, and the alternate dress routes.

Durable tips

  • Live in Tactical Mode. Slow time to queue every spell and ability — real-time mashing wastes ATB.
  • Always Assess new enemies for the weakness and stagger condition before committing.
  • Learn Weapon Abilities by using each weapon to 100% Proficiency — then you keep the ability on every weapon.
  • Reset SP freely to re-spec weapon trees per fight; no weapon goes obsolete.
  • Tifa is your stagger nuke — stack Unbridled Strength and dump True Strike inside the window.
  • Spread Materia across the whole party — forced solo/duo chapters punish a one-character investment.
  • Save Hard Mode for last, built and leveled, then farm manuscripts and the Pride and Joy via Chapter Select / the combat simulator.

What it's all about

⚠ Spoiler — the story & ending

Remake covers just the Midgar opening of the 1997 original, vastly expanded. Ex-SOLDIER mercenary Cloud hires on with the eco-terrorist cell AVALANCHE (Barret, Tifa, and others) to bomb the Shinra Electric Company's reactors, which are draining the planet's lifeblood — Mako. He meets the flower girl Aerith and is haunted by visions of Sephiroth, the legendary SOLDIER long thought dead.

Shinra murders thousands by dropping the Sector 7 plate and pins it on AVALANCHE. The party storms Shinra HQ, where President Shinra is killed and Sephiroth resurfaces in the flesh.

What's new to Remake: the Whispers (Arbiters of Fate) exist to force events to match the original game's destiny. The finale has the party choose to fight through them at the edge of Midgar to defy that fixed future — cracking the timeline open. A closing glimpse shows Zack Fair, who died in the original, somehow alive in a diverging timeline. The story continues in FF VII Rebirth.
