Chaos & Completion

Ultimate weapons, the plunge 2,000 years into the past, four Fiends remixed, Chaos himself, and the checklist that means the Light Warriors are done.

Done means done

Master 100% checklist

  • All four Crystals lit (Earth, Fire, Water, Wind)
  • Class Change completed
  • Lute still in inventory
  • Mystic Key tour finished (Ch.3)
  • Excalibur forged (Adamant + smith)
  • Masamune obtained in final dungeon path
  • Best armor/weapons each class can equip
  • Max useful spell lists (Flare, Holy, full Cure line, Haste, Protect, Nul-set)
  • Temple of Fiends past cleared; Chaos defeated
  • Optional: every remaining chest in Mirage/Flying Fortress/Sea Shrine

Comfort level for Chaos: mid-30s is safe for most PR parties; higher if undergeared casters.

Prep

Before you enter the past

  1. Fill inventory: Hi-Potions / X-Potions, Ethers, Phoenix Downs, Cottages, status cures.
  2. Confirm spell charges are high (rest at inns; level if charge pools feel thin).
  3. Equip elemental protection accessories where available.
  4. Complete the two weapon hunts below if you want peak damage.
Ultimate gear

Adamant & Excalibur

  1. Obtain Adamant (Adamantite) from the underwater / shrine or fortress treasure routes tied to the robot — typically a chest in the late game water or sky dungeons (Sea Shrine or related path). If you already looted every Sea Shrine chest in Ch.5, check inventory.
  2. Visit the dwarven / legendary smith (smith in the volcano area or dwarf village story path — PR marks the forge NPC once Adamant is held).
  3. Trade Adamant into Excalibur, one of the strongest knight blades in the game.
  4. Give it to your Knight (or best sword user).
Ultimate gear

Masamune

  • Found as a treasure in the Temple of Fiends (past) / Chaos Shrine upper floors during the final dungeon run.
  • Often usable by multiple advanced classes (Ninja loves it). Grab it before the final descent if the chest is on the way down.
  • Do not leave the dungeon without checking every side room on the way to Chaos.
Final dungeon

Temple of Fiends — 2,000 years past

  1. With all four Crystals lit, return to the Temple of Fiends near Cornelia.
  2. The structure has changed into a black void / time gate. Enter.
  3. Use the Lute when the game prompts (sealed door / altar) — without it you cannot reach Chaos.
  4. The dungeon is long: multiple floors, heavy encounters, no shop. Manage charges; Tent/Cottage at safe tiles if allowed.
  5. Loot every chest including Masamune path.
Rematches

Four Fiends again (stronger)

You re-fight each Fiend inside the past shrine. Same elemental answers, higher stats.

Heal to full between Fiend rooms. Do not enter Chaos low on charges.
Final boss

Chaos

  • Who: Garland, empowered by the Fiends across time, reborn as Chaos.
  • Threats: High-tier magic, party damage, self-healing, status. He can undo slow damage races.
  • Damage plan: Haste + Temper/Saber on Knight/Master/Ninja; Black Wizard Flare every free turn; keep pressure so his heals cannot stabilize.
  • Defense plan: Full-party Cura/Curaga; Arise/Full-Life on deaths immediately; Nul spells if he leans elemental.
  • Items: Do not be shy with Ethers and X-Potions. This is the last fight.
⚠ Spoiler — the time loop

Chaos sent the Fiends into the past; the Fiends sent the defeated Garland back; Garland became Chaos. The loop has no true beginning. Killing Chaos in the past severs it. Because the loop never occurs, the world’s present never needs the Light Warriors’ journey — no one remembers what they did.

Clear

You have completed Final Fantasy I

  • Watch the ending. Save a clear file if you want museum / NG+ habits on other ports.
  • PR has no post-game bonus dungeon in the classic sense — Chaos is the finish line.
  • For class theory and spell min-max after the fact, use Party and Magic.
The crystals are lit. The loop is broken. The Warriors of Light walk into a world that will never know their names — and that is the point.
